To Benefit from a Functional Mushroom, You Need to Know What You’re Getting.
Not all fungal products are equal. Functional “mushroom” products generally contain EITHER the mushroom (fruiting body) OR the mycelium (vegetative body). Notice the quotations around the word “mushroom.”
Even though mushrooms and mycelium are two very distinct and different parts of these fungal organisms, some supplement purveyors label their products as containing mushrooms when in fact, they contain only grain, and the mycelium that grows on it. Both the scientific research and respected practitioners in the field confirm that the functional value is higher when using the mushroom, rather than the mycelium. Especially if it’s a mycelium fermented grain product, which ends up being mostly grain.
