Medicinal mushrooms have been revered in Chinese medicine for thousands of years — for good reason.

Lately, my patients have been asking me what I think of mushrooms like reishi, cordyceps, and lion’s mane being added to everything from coffee and chocolate, to skin care products.

It’s a bit of a pet peeve of mine the way the wellness industry hypes up certain herbs and convinces everyone that they need it, because no one herb is going to be right for everyone.

But the mushroom trend is one I can get behind. In fact, a case can be made that mushrooms should be considered their own food group. When taken regularly, in a preventative way, like eating vegetables, they offer profound benefits without being likely to throw us out of balance.

In this episode of my podcast,  A Healthy CuriosityI sit down with medical herbalist Lee Carroll to explore the benefits of medicinal mushrooms and how they can serve as allies for immunity, stress resilience, brain health, and aging well.

🎧 In this episode, you’ll hear:

  • Which mushrooms do what (plus a few of my favorites)
  • Why mushrooms could be considered their own food group
  • How ergothionine may be the “longevity vitamin” you’ve never heard of
  • The science behind reishi for the heart, cordyceps and its role in protecting our DNA and more
